Is anyone else feeling what I’m feeling?

John 4:25-26

The woman said to Him, “I know that Messiah is coming (He who is called Christ). When He comes, He will tell us all things.” Jesus said to her, “I who speak to you am He.”

In November of 1999, I stood in a little church in Eastern Kentucky and gave my heart to Christ. I had stood in the same pew for about 6 Sundays and each time the Pastor gave an altar call, I felt like I needed to go forward. The others that stood there with their heads bowed couldn’t see the guilt and shame I wore. Something in me knew the only way to be set free was to give my heart to this man named Jesus who died on a cross so that I wouldn’t have to continue to live like this.

A portion of the song they sang that day said:

Just as I am without one plea but that
Thy blood was shed for me
And that Thou bid’st me come to Thee
Oh lamb of God I come I come

Just as I am and waiting not
To rid my soul of one dark blot
To Thee who’s blood can cleanse each spot
Oh lamb of God I come I come

Charlotte Elliott. Just as I Am. 1835.

It was just like that, I heard those words and I knew that Jesus had shed His blood for me. He was calling me to Himself, no one could hear it but me, I can remember looking around and thinking, “Is anyone else feeling what I am feeling?” It was the ridding my soul of one dark blot, that Jesus’ blood could cleanse it and all I had to do was come.

So I did.

For those of you on the fence on Sunday mornings, as you stand there like I did in the pew feeling those words were written just for you, know that Jesus is who He says He is. Like the woman who said, “I know that Messiah is coming, the One called Christ.” Christ  was right in front of her.

Jesus is right in front of you. He calls to you through the words of songs and through the Scriptures. Maybe someone said something to you and it just happened to be something you read about Jesus or a song written about Him. That’s how He speaks.

Next time you feel that heart tug toward the altar, obey and go forward. You will never be the same. He is so worthy. Anything you leave behind for Christ will be nothing compared to what’s in store for a life that is lived for Him. Promise.

Till next time!
